State of the Union
We are facing a federal administration that is disappearing and killing people, even turning it into spectacle, and trying to make it the new normal.
Our problems didn't start with Trump and won't end with him, but he's changed the executive branch in ways that will haunt us for decades to come.
Congress is broken and can no longer check the presidency, while the Supreme Court makes a mockery of the Constitution and morality.
When Trump finally leaves office...
Things will not go back to normal
The forces which birthed Trumpism will still be with us
We need to organize resistance
Set our sights on fundamental reform
Even rebel against unjust authorities
That means pivoting to
Renewed state power and inter-state pacts
Backing journalism and the scientific process
Dismantling the Right-wing media empire
Our Principles
Chances are you're not sure what the Democratic Party stands for, and even less clear on what it'll fight for. I'm running this campaign because I hope to demonstrate there is demand for radical change guided by a set of progressive values.
If elected I will invite other representatives to claim the Resist label and advertise their actions on this website. But I will also hold them to account for demonstrating the principles below, so you know what you're getting when you vote to Resist.
A Bit About Me
My name is Gabriel Sorrel, and I'm running to be a representative in the Maryland General Assembly for District 19. I believe Democrats need to do more to earn their voters' support. More to stop Trump and his allies. More to expand the social safety net. More to communicate their vision to the public. Every vote for me is a voice in agreement with those statements and the principles I've outlined. My hope is no matter the results of this upcoming election those voices will be heard.
But if you'd like to know a little more about me personally, I'm an experienced software engineer, a lifelong geek, the father of two wonderful children, and a committed husband of fifteen years. I've lived in Gaithersburg for nearly twenty years, ran for the Democratic Central Committee in 2018, and spent several years as an active member of the LGBTQ Democrats of Montgomery County. I believe my focus on systemic issues and guiding principles for the Democratic Party will help me be a better representative for the people of District 19.
